Operating for about two years, 3tentos' biodiesel industry in Vera (MT) has just been accredited by RenovaBio, a federal government program that aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through the generation of Decarbonization Credits (CBIOs). The Company is expected to generate around 110,000 CBIOs (each CBIO corresponds to the avoided emission of 1 ton of carbon equivalent) over the next eight months, starting in May.
“The certification reinforces the Company's commitment to sustainability, demonstrating the adoption of good environmental practices, complete traceability of the production chain and alignment with national emissions reduction targets,” said 3tentos CEO João Marcelo Dumoncel.
Dumoncel highlighted that, for customers, purchasing certified biofuel allows them to participate in a production chain aligned with the principles of sustainability and decarbonization.
According to Felipe Dalzotto Artuzo, Renovabio Coordinator at 3tentos, the certification began after the legal regulatory deadline of January 1, 2025, as current legislation allows new plants to be certified one year after the collection of consolidated industrial data from the previous year. The scope of the certification includes the complete assessment of the biodiesel production chain. For this, the Energy-Environmental Efficiency Rating (NEEA) was used, calculated based on a life cycle analysis (LCA), covering everything from soybean cultivation to soybean processing into biodiesel at the industrial unit.
“One of the main criteria assessed was land use and occupation. All soybean supply areas underwent eligibility verification, ensuring that there was no removal of native vegetation after December 31, 2017. This guarantees that production occurs in consolidated agricultural areas, an important principle followed in the analysis of the Vera unit, through the traceability of the raw material up to the biodiesel,” explained Artuzo.
All declared information was audited by an inspection firm accredited by the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP), ensuring reliability, integrity of data and compliance with the sustainability criteria required by the program.
3tentos is already an issuer of CBIOs through its industrial unit located in the municipality of Ijuí (RS), which obtained its first certification on May 15, 2020. Since then, the company has maintained its certification through regular monitoring and recertification whenever necessary, in accordance with the technical and regulatory criteria established by the RenovaBio program.
